BJD Starter Kit – What You Need to Get Started
Meta Description: Planning your first BJD purchase? Here's a complete list of everything you need to get started—from the doll itself to the essential accessories.
Buying your first BJD is just the beginning. To properly welcome your new doll home, you'll need a few essential items. Here's a checklist to help you get started.
The Essentials
1. The Doll (BJD)
This is the most important purchase. Decide between buying a full set (includes basic makeup, eyes, and wig) or a blank doll (no face-up, ready for you to customize) . If you're a beginner, a full set might be more convenient.
2. Wig
BJDs rarely come with wigs included, and when they do, you'll probably want to buy additional ones anyway. Look for high-temperature synthetic fiber wigs in your doll's size. Popular beginner colors include black, brown, and blonde .
3. Eyes
The eyes are your doll's "soul." Choose between:
-
Glass Eyes: Provide more depth and realistic light reflection .
-
Acrylic Eyes: More affordable and available in a huge range of designs .
4. Clothing (and Underwear!)
Clothing completes your doll's look—but don't forget the base layer. Always dress your doll in light-colored underwear before putting on dark outer clothes to prevent staining on the resin body .

5. Doll Stand
A doll stand is essential for display and photography. It keeps your doll secure and prevents accidental falls .
6. Wig Cap
A wig cap helps keep the wig secure and protects the doll's head from staining.
7. Gloves
Wearing cotton gloves while handling your doll can help protect the face-up from oils and dirt .
8. Storage and Display
Consider a glass display case or dust cover to protect your doll when not in use .
9. Basic Care Kit
A soft brush (for dusting), a microfiber cloth, and a safe storage box will help you keep your doll in top condition .
10. Dollhouse and Furniture
If you plan to display your BJD in a miniature setting, our 1/6 and 1/8 scale dollhouses and furniture are the perfect match.
